Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center Is Back

CMACIt’s great to see that what used to be called the Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center in Canandaigua, NY is back up and running after a $13 million renovation. Included in the make over is a very memorable renaming of the facility: Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (or just CMAC for short). Catchy!

They are already building a solid lineup of summer shows including Steely Dan, Alison Krauss and Robert Plant, Sheryl Crow, Allman Brothers with Ratdog and (for Jack) Laurie Berkner.

Jen and I saw James Taylor there many years ago and we really enjoyed the venue. It’s not too far of a drive and the setting is much nicer than Darien Lake’s amphitheater. I’m looking forward to seeing some shows there again and really hoping they can nab Mr. Taylor again since he’s touring this summer but only coming as close as Toronto.

Himmler?

Two mighty albums released this year make a reference to Himmler…

The Shins – Australia

Dare to be one of us girl
Faced with the android’s conundrum
I felt like I should just cry
But nothing happens every time I take one on the chin
Yeah Himmler in your coat you don’t know how long I’ve been
Watching the lantern dim starved of oxygen
So give me your hand and let’s jump out the window

The Tragically Hip – World Container

There’s a world container with your name on it
and a billion ways to go berserk
when the country quits on you
it must be dinner
and the Himmler on this one is, there’s no dessert
(he’s the one who couldn’t imagine
all the people living life in peace, yoo hoo oo oo oo)

So why Himmler? Heinrich Himmler was a prominent member of the Nazi party and primarily responsible for the entire Holocaust (as organizer). The “Himmler” on his story is that the British captured him but committed suicide before he could be put on trial at Nuremberg.

Velvet Underground MP3s

Not sure if anyone saw this but someone posted the mp3s from those Velvet Underground acetates that were found and put on eBay recently. Apparently they sound pretty good.

Grab them here.

Here is how it all happened (with pic goodness). This one has a picture of the actual acetate and it’s really wild to see 4-25-66 written on it. That’s over 40 years ago, btw. Wow.
